Johnson Shoe Drive a Success

Hundreds of pairs of brand new shoes lined the hallways of Johnson Elementary School Thursday, April 5. The shoes were donated by students and staff for the Shoes for Orphaned Souls program.

Students and staff participated in the campus wide event by taking off their shoes and wearing socks during school. Students did wear their shoes to recess and during lunch periods. Shoes for Orphaned Souls is an organization that helps millions of children worldwide by providing them a new pair of shoes. Most of the shoes donated by Johnson students were athletic shoes.

JES celebrates different character traits throughout the school year. Hope, is the chosen trait for the month of April. Counselor Elizabeth Johnston said by participating in the One Day Without Shoes event, Carroll students at Johnson are giving hope to children in need and promoting kindness- part of the district’s Rachel’s Challenge initiative.
