Dragon Drama: McLemore Delivers Walk-Off Special

Carroll second baseman Darien McLemore's walk-off HR lifted the Dragons to a 3-2 victory in the area playoffs.

GRAPEVINE – Carroll Dragon senior second baseman produced the biggest hit of his career last Saturday at Grapevine. McLemore smacked a game-winning solo home run in the bottom of the 12th inning as the Dragons defeated Grapevine 3-2 in a one-game playoff. The Class 5a area playoff was shortened to one game due to Friday’s inclement weather.

Carroll (21-10) advances to face Flower Mound in a one-game 5A Regional Quarterfinal playoff at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Colleyville Heritage. The drama against Grapevine started in the bottom of the sixth as Carroll trailed 2-1. Nick Arst blasted a game-tying solo home run that eventually sent the game into extra innings.

Dragon pitcher Sean Thompson, who closed out Game 3 vs. Marcus in the bi-district round, threw five scoreless innings after relieving starter Greg Maisto in the eighth. Carroll and Grapevine, long-time neighboring rivals, met in the baseball playoffs for the first time.
