Former Dragon QB Transfers To Eastern Washington

Coming off his junior year at SMU, former Carroll quarterback Kyle Padron made it official that he is transferring to Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Washington to play his final two years.

Padron is following in the footsteps of former SMU quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell. Padron replaced Mitchell as SMU’s starting quarterback before Mitchell transferred. By moving to a Division I-AA school, Padron can play immediately and does not have to sit out a year and lose his final year of eligibility. Padron graduated from Carroll in 2009 and passed for 1,550 yards and 18 TDs as a senior in five games before suffering a broken hand.

While with the Mustangs, Padron threw for 5,902 yards, 41 TDs, 21 INTs and held a completion percentage of 61.2 percent.  In 2012, Padron was ranked 8^th among Division 1 quarterbacks in total passing yards with 3,828. After appealing to the NCAA last year for an injury redshirt, he was granted an extra year of eligibility, making him a fourth-year junior at EWU.

Padron’s first game in an Eagles’  uniform will be Aug. 30, when the Eagles take on the Vols from the University of Idaho.  He will play Washington State the following week and his first home game on the famous red turf will be Sept. 29 against Montana, which  last year won their conference and lost in the Semi-finals of the Division 1-AA playoffs to Sam Houston State University.

Padron started 21 games at SMU and was 5-1 as a freshman starter. He earned Hawaii Bowl MVP honor after passing for a school-record 460 yards and two TDs in SMU’s 45-10 victory over Nevada.
