Lady Dragons Sweep Martin, Head West For Area Round

The Carroll Lady Dragon softball team’s first playoff games under the lights at Carroll Senior High School were unforgettable.

The Lady Dragons earned a convincing two-game sweep of Arlington Martin last Friday in the Class 5A bi-district playoffs. Carroll (24-7) won the series opener 11-1 and sealed the series sweep with an 11-0 victory at CSHS. Lights were installed earlier this season on the CSHS campus. Carroll’s playoff series win marked the first for the program since 2005.

In the opener, Carroll exploded in the middle innings after the game was scoreless after three innings. Carroll added three runs in the fourth and fifth innings and five in the sixth. Alexa Wimberly led the Lady Dragons with three RBI and Alex Schneider earned the win on the mound and allowed three hits. In Game 2, the Lady Dragons produced a five-inning run-rule victory and had 16 hits led by Christina Andrews’ three hits. Andrews also earned the shutout and allowed four hits.

Carroll advances to face Lubbock Coronado in the area round of the playoffs.
