Tuesday afternoon, the Tarrant County Medical Examiner officially declared 16-year-old Carroll High School sophomore James “Cole” Malone brain dead as a result of an accident Monday night.

This step was necessary so that Cole’s mother Karen could make the life-giving decision to donate his organs to recipients on various transplant waiting lists across the nation.

Cole is being kept on life support at a Fort Worth Hospital until the transplant recipients are identified and the process is complete. So many Carroll teenagers and friends have played a role in supporting the Malone family throughout the day. Without a doubt, we are blessed with some amazing young people in this community. For that, we are forever grateful.

Although we are are sad to confirm Cole’s passing, what a tremendous peace we have knowing his contributions will continue on in the lives of others! Please continue to keep the Malone family in your thoughts and prayers in the days ahead. Details about services will be shared with members of our Dragon family as soon as they are available.

Cole was a member of the Carroll Clay Target Team.
