Dragons Open Season Friday at Austin Westlake

The start of Texas High School football has arrived.

The Carroll Dragons open the season on the road at 7:30 p.m. Friday vs. Austin Westlake in one of the marquee matchups in the state. Carroll defeated Westlake, led by former Dragon coach Todd Dodge, 17-14 in last year’s season opener at Dragon Stadium.

Carroll is coming off a 13-1 season which included reaching the Class 6A Division II Region I finals. This is the first of two consecutive long road trips for the Dragons to start the 2015 season. Next week, the Dragons travel to face Oklahoma power Tulsa Union.

The Dragon are led by running back Lil’ Jordan Humphrey, who rushed for 1,789 yards last season and 29 TDs. He averaged 6.2 yards per carry. Westlake went 7-4 last year in Dodge’s first season.

The Carroll vs. Westlake game will be carried live on The Word 100.7 FM with Chuck Kelly handling the play-by-play call.
