Cross Country Teams Sweep Weekend Meets

CCBBoth the boys and girls varsity cross country teams took 1st place and achieved perfect scores when they traveled to Corpus Christi for their annual trip to the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelina Invitational. The JV boy and girls teams also ran away with 1st place at the Marcus II Invitational in Denton.

Scoring a perfect 15, the Carroll Boys were led by Charlie Gardner (15:24), Shea Whatley (15:38), Nicholas Fernandes (15:46), Michael Waugh (15:47) and Timou Toure (15:59).

The Lady Dragons also reached perfection in their score with Tig Archer (17:50) leading the field, followed by Allison Esparza (17:57), Arianna Lopez (18:05), Sarah Odneal (18:24) and Kayli Jones (18:29).

JV Boys & Girls Take 1st Marcus II

Both boys and girls JV teams came away with impressive performances at the Marcus II Invitational. The JV girls had a first place finish and a notable low score of 32 led by Hannah Morrison in 4th place (21:48), Lauren Langenberg in 5th (21:54), Emma Lunden in 6th (22:03), Lexis Sorenson in 8th (22:04) and Catlin Mertz rounding out the top 5 in 9th place (22:05).

The JV boys also took 1st place with an equally impressive low score of 34 and were led by PJ Rebeil who got 3rd place (18:16), Grant Booher in 7th place (18:26), Jared Stewart in 8th place (18:29), Drew Bliss in 9th place (18:35), and Matthew Esparza in 11th place (18:39).

Carroll Cross Country Head Coach Justin Leonard commented, “This was a great weekend for CXC. All of our teams stepped up and had some great performances. We are excited to see the progression that our kids display each week. We must continue to make each practice count and keep our eye on the prize. District, Regionals and State are the meets we are targeting and the ones that will leave a lasting mark.”

Dragons are back on the course Oct. 3 with the Varsity traveling to the highly competitive Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, AR and the JV Dragon runners in Keller.
