DIS Students Shine at Poetry Contest

20151024_143044Two Durham Intermediate students, Malia Hall and Augustus Shockley, were finalists in the Red Steagall Poetry Contest last Saturday, Oct. 23. Malia Hall and Augustus Shockley both received honors, including Augustus winning 2nd place and being awarded a $2,500 scholarship.

This year marked the 25th Anniversary of the Red Steagall Cowboy Gathering and Western Swing Festival, which includes the Red Steagall Poetry Contest that Malia and Augustus competed in. The festival is held annually in the Fort Worth Stockyards and features a wide range of exciting activities for all ages. You can enjoy a horsemanship clinic or grab a seat at one of the Ranch Rodeo performances, listen to the youth poetry contest, or swing dancing with Red Steagall himself.
