CSHS Participating in World’s Largest Global eBook Club

Carroll Senior High will take part in the Overdrive Big Library Read program, the world’s largest global eBook reading club that connects millions of readers around the world with the same eBook at the same time. Overdrive is Carroll Libraries’ eBook platform. http://carrollisd.lib.overdrive.com.

Anyone with an Overdrive account, both senior high students and all district faculty, will be able to borrow the eBook or downloadable audiobook American Sniper: The New York Times bestselling memoir of U.S. Navy Seal Chris Kyle, starting now and concluding on Thursday, March 31 by visiting http://carrollisd.lib.overdrive.com.

Anyone who doesn’t already have an Overdrive account or needs help accessing the book should contact CSH Librarian, Sarah Chase, at (817) 949-5822 or sarah.chase@southlakecarroll.edu.  American Sniper can be read on all major computers and devices, including iPhone, iPad, Android phones and tablets, Chromebook and Kindle without worrying about wait lists or holds. The eBook will automatically expire at the end of the lending period.  The library also has multiple copies of the book available to check out, for those who don’t want to use the eBook or audiobook versions.

Activities during the Big Library Read will include book discussion groups held during lunch in the senior high library on Wednesday, March 30 and Thursday, March 31.  There will also be a book discussion group after school in the senior high library at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29.  We invite everyone to come to one or more of the discussions.  The culminating event to the Big Library Read will be the showing of the American Sniper movie in the senior high library after school at 4 p.m. on Monday, April 4.  (Permission Slip required.) The movie was nominated for six Academy awards, including best picture.

Participation in the Big Library Read, the book discussion groups, and the movie viewing are all voluntary; no students will be required to read the book or see the movie. But we encourage all those who are interested to join us in this fun event.
