Citizen Satisfaction Survey Results – What You Said

The results for the 2015 City of Southlake Citizen Satisfaction Survey are in. The good news, many of you are very satisfied with City services and Southlake’s quality of life.

More than 98% of you say that life in Southlake is either excellent, very good, or good.

“This is our eighth survey, and we are always appreciative of the thoughtful and honest feedback,” said City Manager Shana Yelverton. “The results are put to work by the Council and City Staff to refine our department work plans and plan for the future. What we learn and then put into action is an important part of our business strategy.”

Many residents are also satisfied with the City’s goal of achieving the highest standards of safety and security, with 88% of respondents saying it is either very good or excellent.
What isn’t satisfactory for many is construction-related traffic congestion.

One survey respondent said: “Major traffic issues need to be aggressively addressed such as Davis Blvd, 1709 and Continental.”

With many of the projects, such as the widening of Randol Mill (FM 1938) which includes the addition of dual turn lanes at the Southlake Boulevard intersection, there is an end in sight. “It is our hope by the end of this summer that intersection should be completed.” former Public Works Director Bob Price said at the February 16, 2016 Council meeting.

Residents also want to see more sidewalks and bicycle paths in the City, with one person commenting: “There should more of an ability to connect without getting into our cars. Even neighborhoods should have sidewalks.”

Yelverton says the survey results, especially the areas of opportunity, are a priority for the Council and city staff. “Our mission statement states that we provide municipal services that support the highest quality of life for residents, businesses and visitors. We intend to live up to that standard in every area.”

The survey results and statistical data were compiled and provided by the City’s longtime survey partner Decision Analyst.  The survey was conducted using the convenience sample process.  This type of sampling method, which is commonly used in these types of surveys, was used for the 2015 Southlake Citizen Satisfaction survey so the City could allocate its budget dollars toward research and could reflect the spirit of the democratic process, so any Southlake resident could participate.

When it closed in December, 673 residents had completed the survey resulting in a confidence level of 95%. Decision Analyst says that if the survey were conducted 100 times; the survey data would be within +/-3.5% of the true percentage for the entire population of Southlake residents.
