Dragons Raise Funds For Komen Tarrant County

Carroll ISD continues to show its support in the fight against Breast Cancer, raising more than $6,700 at the second annual Pink Out Night at Dragon Stadium Friday. School officials say those funds will be added to money raised at the two middle school campuses and presented to representatives from Komen Tarrant County at the November 5 home football game.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and to help mark the occasion, a number of CISD campuses and athletic teams have been hosting Pink Out events. 

The Carroll Athletic Booster Club did their part by selling official 2010 “Pink Out” t-shirts in the Dragon’s Den for $20. The CABC contributed $2,350 toward the district’s Pink Out football collections. Another $1,000 was raised by auctioning of the Community Box at the stadium.

School officials say fans on both sides of  the field were encouraged to wear pink. A pre-game field recognition was held for breast cancer survivors. About 24 survivors participated in the pre-game activities organized by Carroll Middle School employee and cancer survivor Paige Buck.

Dragon Concessions sold pink lemonade, pink cotton candy and pink cupcakes that evening. Members of CISD’s Peer Assistance Leadership or PALs class, taught by Nikki Gilley assisted in a pass-the-bucket-campaign during the first quarter of the game. They collected more than $3,400 in bills and loose change.

In support of Pink Out activities, the Planning Committee for Rachel’s Rally/Relay For Life – Southlake, invited the public to a pre-game tailgate party to “officially” kick-off team and volunteer sign-ups for the May 20, 2011 event.

Carroll Middle School football scheduled two pink out games, and Dawson Middle School students and staff competed in a Pink Out volleyball match on Friday of last week. Faculty members there have been recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness month with dress-up days and fundraisers leading up to the student-faculty volleyball game.

Last month, the Lady Dragons held their annual Pink Out volleyball game. Dragon basketball and swim teams also plan “pink out” events later in their respective seasons..
