By this time next year residents should see more sidewalks along Southlake Boulevard (F.M. 1709). The City Council approved fund ($49,130) at the October 19th meeting to help design the sidewalks and connect the gaps on one of Southlake’s main corridors.
The areas of design and ultimately construction will be made possible as part of a State Transportation Enhancement Program (STEP) grant totaling $1.733 million dollars. By accepting the terms of the grant, the City agrees to an 80/20 match which means the City is responsible for remainder of the $2.1 million dollar TxDOT administered project and any additional costs.
The money approved at the meeting includes the price of formatting the current designs to TxDOT standards, required review meetings and if needed plan revisions. The sidewalk construction is scheduled to start in 2011 subject to TxDOTs timetable.
It should be noted that this project is separate from the Southlake Boulevard median, deceleration and sidewalk construction project currently making its way to Southlake. The median project is now underway in Keller and is expected to make its way to Southlake by the end of 2010.
