Carroll Chemistry Teacher Wins Award

Carroll High School teacher Mrs. Jennifer Cruze was recently awarded the American Chemical Society’s Southwest Regional Excellence in High School Teaching Award for 2010. Cruze will receive a plaque and cash award next month.

The American Chemical Society is a non-profit organization chartered by the U.S. Congress. The ACS has more than 160,000 members and gives out more than $22 million in grants to fund education and research. The American Chemical Society is the largest scientific society in the world.

Cruze (pictured right) came to Carroll ISD in 2008. She teaches Pre-AP Chemistry and Chemistry. She is very active on campus, sponsoring the Science Club and Sophomore Class Council. In addition to teaching, Mrs. Cruze is also an accomplished public speaker. Monday, Nov. 15 she is the featured lecturer at the monthly DFW American Chemical Society meeting. Cruze will share her classroom experiences and teaching techniques in a talk titled “Teaching and The Law of Thresholds”.
