School Board Adopts 2011-2012 Calendar

The School Board voted unanimously Monday on Calendar Option #2 for the 2011-2012 school year, the favorite of both staff and parents based on feedback obtained the past several weeks.

School officials say the calendar is still subject to change, pending the state’s release of the STAAR (replaces TAKS) testing schedule. The first day of school for students is Monday, August 22 and the last day is Thursday, May 31. The calendar front-loads professional development in August before students return, offers less holidays throughout the year and ends with graduation on Friday, June 1. The bad weather days are April 6 and 9. Spring Break will be March 12-16, 2012.

Darrell Brown, Executive Director of Teaching & Learning Services, said nearly all of the individuals who submitted comments favored Calendar #2, which is available on the district’s website at www.southlakecarroll.edu and on www.MySouthlakeNews.com.
