District Offers Two School Calendar Options

Carroll officials have posted two proposed 2011-2012 school calendars to the district’s website, with the hope that employees and parents will review the two options and submit comments and questions before Trustees ultimately vote to adopt a calendar.  Darrell Brown, Executive Director of Teaching & Learning Services, said the calendars share the same fall, winter and spring breaks, but offer different professional development days and different school ending dates.

Calendar Option 1 features only two professional development days and one work day prior to the start of school, with professional development days scattered throughout the year and the last day of instruction on June 5. One bad weather day/student holiday has been placed in April. June 6, under this proposal, would be the second bad weather day/student holiday and graduation would occur on June 7.

Calendar Option 2 provides for four professional development days and one staff workday prior to the start of school, with less professional development days/student holidays throughout the year.  Both bad weather days are built into the calendar in April under this proposed calendar. The last day of instruction on Calendar Option 2 would be May 31, with graduation on June 1.

Both calendars propose a Monday, August 22 start date for students and end the first semester in mid-January. The calendar options, along with public and staff input, will be presented to the Carroll ISD School Board on December 13. To view the calendar options, visit the CISD website at  http://www.southlakecarroll.edu/cisd-calendar.aspx. After reviewing the features of the two calendar options, send your comments and/or questions to darrell.brown@southlakecarroll.edu.
