The Carroll Dragons took fifth place in speech and debate during the University of Texas Longhorn Debate Classic held in Austin recently. A total of 114 schools and more than 1,000 students competed at the meet, which is the largest high school tournament in Texas.
Carroll was well represented by the following:
Arvind Venkataraman – 1st in Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking; Top 16 in Public Forum Debate; and earned a Tournaments of Champions bid at Northwestern University
Jessica Nadalin- 2nd in Dramatic Interpretation; Semi-finalist in Prose; and earned a Tournaments of Champions bid for St. Mary’s University in May
Paul Samuel – 3rd in Congressional Debate; and a Tournament of Champions bid to the University of Kentucky in May
Kevin O’Brien- 8th in US Extemporaneous Speaking and a bid to the Tournament of Champions at Northwestern University
Patrick Graham- 8th in Lincoln-Douglas Debate
Bonnie Song-10th in Junior Varsity Lincoln-Douglas Debate
Adam Marshall – Semi-finalist in Dramatic Interpretation and received a bid to the Tournament of Champions at St. Mary’s University
Nick Lowrimore – Semi-finalist in US Extemporaneous Speaking, and received a bid to Northwestern University
Tim Dominguez- Semi-finalist in US Extemporaneous Speaking, and received bid to Northwestern University
Sean Armas – Semi-finalist in Poetry Interpretation
