Southlake Police in Texas's Top 20 for DWI/DUI Enforcement

For the month of November, the City of Southlake has been named one of the Top 20 DWI/DUI enforcement cities in the State of Texas.  The method used to determine the top 20 cities is gathered from every agency in the State of Texas using the Law Enforcement Advanced DWI/DUI Reporting System (LEADRS). LEADRS is the only system able to compare these statistics by agency; obtaining recognition for being in the top 20 in the State of Texas is a significant achievement by the City of Southlake Department of Public Safety Police Services Division.

What is LEADRS?

Southlake DPS utilizes a state funded web-based reporting system known as Law Enforcement Advanced DWI/DUI Reporting System (LEADRS).  Under a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation with funding from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Texas Municipal Police Association (TMPA) conducted a series of focus groups with a diverse panel of peace officers and prosecutors to determine the issues prolonging DUI/DWI arrest time. The Texas LEADRS pilot program went online in 2004 and has far exceeded performance expectations.  While initially designed to reduce DUI/DWI arrest reporting time by 30%, LEADRS users have reported that the program has reduced their reporting time by up to 50%.  This system has greatly decreased the time required to document a DWI/DUI case and increases the ability of officers to return to the street in a more timely fashion.  Without the development of the LEADRS program our arrest numbers would not have increased over the past 6 years, leading Southlake DPS to being one of the Top 20 Enforcement cities.
