Carroll Forensics is on a winning streak this season. The team continues to earn awards. Taz Sella, Paul Samuel, Kevin O’Brien, Arvind Venkataraman and Michael Kohm were all recently named qualifier for the National Forensic League National Tournament. The event will be held in Dallas June 13- 18, 2011.
Over President’s Day weekend, the team competed in the Harvard Invitational Debate in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The Dragons were among 3,500 students from 3 countries participated in the debate.
Southlake Carroll had outstanding representation with Taz Sella placing 5th, Arvind Venkataraman placing 10th and Paul Samuel placing 12th in Congressional Debate, out of 400 competitors in this event. Megan Schippmann, advanced to the semi-final round and received a bid to the Tournament of Champions at the University of Kentucky. Patrick Graham placed 3rd in the Lincoln-Douglas Debate Round Robin and received the 4th place speaker award. The largest individual event was Dramatic Interpretation, with over 425 competing, and Keaton Maddox and Jessica Nadalin advanced to the elimination rounds and were in the top 60. Both Keaton and Jessica received bids to the National Individual Event Tournament of Champions to be held at St. Mary’s Hall in San Antonio. Tim Dominguez competed in extemporaneous speaking and advanced to the elimination rounds of the top 60, out of more than 350, and received a bid to the Tournament of Champions at Northwestern University, in Evanston, Illinois.
The team took 6th place sweepstakes overall and was the ONLY Texas school to accomplish.
