Cook Children’s Southlake Facility to Open April 2011

The signage is up on the former Shoe Pavilion building at 2727 E. Southlake Boulevard (southeast corner of Southlake Boulevard and Nolen Drive), revealing its new occupant: Cook Children’s. The newest location for Cook Children’s Health Care System, the urgent care and pediatric specialties center is scheduled to open in April. Renovations of the 31,688 square foot building began in winter, which will offer fully staffed urgent care treatment seven days a week from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

In addition, several of its renowned pediatric service lines will also be available to patients, including neurology specialties, cardiology, gastroenterology, pulmonary, endocrinology, orthopedic surgery, pediatric surgery, hand surgery, psychiatry, and psychology (testing and therapy).

Cook Children’s officials attribute the need for the Southlake facility to the numbers of patient encounters for the area. During 2009, there were 36,024 patient encounters from the Southlake, Grapevine and Colleyville area at Cook Children’s Medical Center. According to a press release issued by Cook Children’s, the Southlake, Colleyville and Grapevine area is expected to grow substantially in the next few years. By 2014, it’s believed the population will grow from just over 100,000 to nearly 111,000; with children ages 0-14 expected to increase from more than 23,000 to nearly 26,000 by 2014.

“Cook Children’s has a long-standing relationship with the Southlake area,”said Rick W. Merrill, Cook Children’s president and CEO, noting Cook Children’s established the Southlake primary care offices of Roger Knapp, M.D., and David Nichols M.D. in 1999 and opened the Cook Children’s Hematology and Oncology Clinic in Grapevine (2009).

“We are thrilled to not only continue that relationship, but to expand there and meet the ever-growing need of our patient population. Our ability to coordinate care across the spectrum through our integrated system helps us deliver the quality of care Southlake parents expect and deserve.”

Several weekend events are planned to celebrate the grand opening. For details, click here.
