Carroll Schools Closed Friday, Feb. 4

Carroll schools will be closed on Friday, February 4 due to hazardous weather conditions.

Carroll school officials are announcing the district’s fourth consecutive day of closure due to winter weather conditions, hazardous roadways and more snow in the forecast tonight.

Parents and staff are being notified of the closure through the district’s emergency notification telephone system, along with media announcements and postings on MySouthlakeNews.com and the CISD website.

CISD officials have been checking campus and roadway conditions daily, but they have showed little to no improvement. Temperatures remained well below freezing with very little to no sunshine today and more snow forecast for Thursday evening.

All athletic events scheduled for February 4, are canceled, as well as district meetings and events. Durham Elementary’s annual Boat Regatta will be canceled for Friday and rescheduled in several weeks.

The ESPN College Combine event at the indoor workout facility Friday on the campus of Carroll Senior High School will be held as planned. Saturday’s Super Camp originally scheduled for Dragon Stadium will move to the indoor workout facility.

Superintendent David Faltys said Carroll will likely request a weather-related waiver for the days of lost instruction. The request will first go before the District Improvement Committee and then to the School Board on February 21 before landing on the Commissioner of Education’s desk. He will likely have multiple requests to rule upon given the number of North Texas schools out for consecutive days.

Carroll ISD has two bad weather days built into the school calendar. The days are Monday, April 11 and Friday, April 22. Both days will become regular school days due to this week’s closures. The outcome of the remaining two days of closure will be pending Board and Commissioner decisions.
