Starting Monday (2/21), City of Southlake Public Works Street crews will begin making roadway improvements to Continental Blvd near the intersection of Byron Nelson Parkway. Crews will begin at 9:00 a.m. by removing the top layer of asphalt surface several hundred feet each side of the Byron Nelson intersection.
Construction activities will cease at approximately 2:00 p.m. that afternoon to allow for the afternoon peak traffic period and will continue again on Tuesday during the same hours. On Wednesday (2/23) of next week, new asphalt paving will begin at 9:00 a.m. and continue through the early afternoon. Asphalt operations will continue through the remainder of the week until the asphalt work is complete.
Currently, Continental Blvd provides only one lane east and west of Byron Nelson. Upon the completion of the new asphalt construction, Continental Boulevard will be re-striped to provide for two eastbound and westbound lanes. The addition of the new lanes is expected to alleviate a significant portion of the traffic backup during the morning and afternoon peak traffic periods which has been backing up due to the four-way stop condition at the intersection.
The striping of the new lanes is expected to begin on Monday (2/28) after the morning peak traffic period. All work is scheduled to be completed by Friday, March 4 assuming no delays during the two week period due to inclement weather.
