Carroll Jazz Band I will perform at the Dallas Museum of Art on Thursday, Apr. 21 from 6- 8:00 p.m. The band was invited by the museum to be one of the featured performers during their series of “Thursday Night Live: Jazz in the Atrium” concerts during the month of April.
The museum is celebrating the life and work of legendary composer, pianist and band leader Duke Ellington. This April celebrates Ellington’s 112th birthday. Carroll Jazz band students are accustomed to performing Ellington’s work, having been named Essentially Ellington finalists in 2007 and 2010. Essentially Ellington is a national competition held every year among high school jazz bands. Finalists are invited to perform at the Lincoln Center in New York City.
Jazz Band I was the winner of the 2009 UTA Jazz Festival and was invited to be a featured performer at the festival in 2010.
