DPS and Municipal Courts Go Electronic

Southlake Municipal Court and the Department of Public Safety are trading in their handwritten citations and pens for electronic citation writers.

This week Police Services participated in a training session on the new system to ensure a streamlined transfer from paper to electronic citations. The devices by Brazos Technology offer time-saving features such as a scanner, camera and touch screen panels.

Currently, DPS has ten electronic writer units available and eventually all officers (on shift) will have one for use. Court clerks will also have a more streamlined filing system that makes citations fully available for processing the next business day.

The new electronic system will eliminate typing in written data from the paper citation to the electronic database. This new streamlined, digital process will greatly assist both Police Services and Municipal Court’s processing of citations.
