Tome, Miyagi, located in the northeast part of Japan, is about 55 miles north of Sendai, Miyagi, the city closest to the earthquake’s epicenter. Tome (and previously Toyoma)  has been a Southlake Sister City since 2004.

According to the Japan-America society of Dallas/Fort Worth: “North Texas has three strong ties to Miyagi prefecture, the area hardest hit by the earthquake. Sendai, the city closest to the epicenter, has been a Dallas International Friendship City since 1997. Southlake enjoys a Sister Cities relationship with Tome City in Japan, and the town of Callisburg in North Texas shares educational exchanges with schools in Kesennuma, Japan.”

The Society also noted:  “We are receiving many inquiries about conditions in Sendai. We are collecting information, but have no official word at this time. We would appreciate your sharing any updates you receive from Japan with us at info@jasdfw.org or posting them to our Facebook page. Please also watch the Dallas-Sendai Facebook page for updates.”
