The Carroll Dragons came out victorious in an extra-inning thriller against Keller Central 5-4 on Friday afternoon at Dragon Field. Carroll senior shortstop Patrick McClendon ripped a walk-off single to left field to keep the Dragon undefeated in District 7-5A at 5-0.
“I was just looking for a pitch to drive,” McClendon said. “He threw it right down the middle and I didn’t miss it.”
Junior catcher Dillon Rake came through for the Dragons in the bottom of the eighth with a pinch-hit double to spark the rally. Dragons starting pitcher Ryan Lowe threw five innings and allowed four runs on five hits and struck out six. Sophomore Tyler Alexander threw the final three innings and allowed only one base runner and struck out four.
Perhaps the player of the week for the Dragons was senior first basemen Kyle Bailey. He has two home runs, including a two-run home run against Central and a grand slam Tuesday night at Coppell. Bailey had seven RBI in two games this week and was error-free at first base. Carroll’s next game is Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Saginaw.
