Carroll Win Sets Up Showdown Friday

The Carroll Lady Dragons (14-11, 7-1) remained on a District 7-5A hot streak with a 10-0 victory Wednesday night against Fossil Ridge. The Lady Dragons have won six consecutive district games and remain tied for first place with Keller. The two nearby rivals meet in a battle for sole possession of first place Friday at 7 p.m. at Bob Jones Park. Leading the 14-hit attack for the Lady Dragons against Fossil Ridge included two-hit nights from Samantha Schneider, Katelyn Vinson, Alexandra Schneider, Mattie Schirle, Sarah Littlehale and Cortney Hand. Littlehale and Schirle led Carroll with three RBI apiece. Lady Dragons pitcher Morgan Bailey and Kelsey Mann held Fossil Ridge to two hits and combined for six strikeouts. The game was rescheduled due to inclement weather Tuesday.

 

Bailey, Booker Combine To Blank Saginaw

The Dragons returned to action Wednesday and senior pitchers Kyle Bailey and Ryan Booker produced a two-hit shutout 8-0 against Saginaw. Bailey, who is bound for Clemson next year, went six innings and allowed just two singles and had eight strikeouts. Booker worked a perfect seventh inning and had one strikeout. Carroll (17-4, 6-0 in District 7-5A) was led at the plate by Ryan Lowe, who was 2-for-3 with a home run and 3 RBI. Payne Drewelow, Patrick McClendon and Bailey each added two hits apiece. The victory sets up a showdown Friday at 4 p.m. at Dragon Field with second-place Denton Guyer. The Wildcats are 5-1 in district. Dragons ace right-hander John Curtiss is expected to start on the mound.
