COPPELL – In a battle of Top 20-ranked teams in the state, the Carroll Dragons proved superior.
The Dragons blanked rival Coppell on the road Tuesday night 8-0. Senior pitcher John Curtiss threw a complete game allowing just three hits and had four strikeouts.
The game started off well in the first for the Dragons when senior left fielder Stephen Tanksley hit an RBI single to left field scoring Payne Drewelow. In the third inning, Drewelow hit a leadoff triple and two Dragons reached to load the bases. Senior designated hitter Kyle Bailey then broke the game open with a monstrous grand slam giving the Dragons a 5-0 lead after three innings.
The Dragons’ offense has been on a tear scoring 64 runs in the last five games (12.8 per game).
Carroll has a five-game win streak and improved to 15-4 overall and 4-0 in District 7-5A. The Dragons are tied for first in district with Denton Guyer. The Dragons return to action Friday afternoon when they host Keller Central at 4 p.m.
