Dragons Top Keller With 6th Inning Rally

The Carroll Dragons played their 2011 home opener Tuesday at Dragon Field against rival Keller.

Carroll pulled out a 4-2 victory and improved to 12-4 overall and 2-0 in District 7-5A. Dragons senior pitcher John Curtiss started and went six innings and gave up two runs and had seven strikeouts. Ryan Lowe, a Davidson College commitment, pitched the final inning in relief and had two strikeouts to seal the victory.

The Dragons’ offensive player of the game was senior outfielder Reno Marcotuli. He went 3-for-3 with two singles and had a key double in the bottom of the sixth. The Dragons’ victory was ignited by a three-run sixth overcoming a 2-1 deficit.

Dragons senior Kyle Bailey and junior Derien McLemore also had doubles in the sixth inning. Carroll’s next game will be Thursday vs. L.D. Bell at noon at The Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. Admission is free. The Dragons finish the week with another 7-5A matchup at home. Carroll hosts Northwest Friday at 4 p.m. at Dragon Field.
