Dragons Return from Disney

The four concert bands had wonderful comments from all of the judges at the UIL Contest last Wednesday and Thursday, April 13 and 14. The Concert Band (4th band) received an Excellent Rating in both the Concert and the Sight Reading events. The Symphonic Band (3rd band), Symphonic Winds (2nd band), and the Wind Ensemble (Varsity 1st band) received Superior Ratings in both events.

As all of these groups are combined in the fall and received the superior rating in the UIL Marching Contest, the Dragon Band was also awarded the Sweepstakes Award for the year with the Wind Ensemble, representing the varsity group, receiving the straight ones in the Concert and Sight Reading Contests.

This represents the 28th time that the Dragon Band has received the Sweepstakes Award.

On Friday, April 15 most of the Dragon Band members traveled to Orlando, Florida to participate in a recording workshop hosted by the Disney Staff at Hollywood Studios. Students were divided into three concert bands and each one had a three hour session in which they learned how professionals work to produce a sound track that accompanies an animated film. Each group was able to practice and record their music to see how it would be added to the animated clip, and then got to view the final product at the end of the session. The recording workshop was a wonderful experience for the band students.
