Learn how to grow a healthier garden and yard

The Bob Jones Nature Center (BJNC) organization will hold a composting workshop at the Bob Jones Nature Center and Preserve (BJNCP), 355 E. Bob Jones Road in Southlake, Saturday, April 30, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  Charlie Shiner, a Master Composter, will present “Composting for Dummies or Let It Rot.” Shiner has composted for years and has presented composting classes in Arlington, Fort Worth, and the surrounding area for over seven years.

Composting is the mixing of organic matter such as leaves, grass clippings, vegetable and fruit scraps, coffee grounds and filters, and even used tea bags to form humus. The humus can be added to garden beds or lawns to enrich the soil since it has many of the nutrients that plants need. By composting kitchen wastes as well as leaves and grass, households are also recycling and reducing the amount of waste that goes to landfill or artificial fertilizers that run off into local streams, ponds, and lakes.  There is no charge for the workshop but making a reservation is recommended.

The Bob Jones Nature Center organization is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization working in association with the City of Southlake and is dedicated to the preservation of the Cross Timbers ecosystem and natural resources. For more information or to make a reservation, call 817.939.1110 or email: bobjonesnaturecenter@hotmail.com.
