DMS Concert Band Picked Over High School Groups

On Thursday, April 14, the Dawson Middle School Concert Band journeyed to Sandy Lake Amusement Park in Carrollton to compete in the annual Sandy Lake Fun-Fest Band Competition.

This year’s group had prepared two challenging pieces, Camel Ride a brand new piece by Jan De Haan and Winchester March, a golden oldie by John Edmondson.  DMS Band Director David Stone said the band did an outstanding job on both pieces and got great comments from all three judges.

After the morning session was complete, the band was awarded a First Division rating and received straight ones from all three judges.  Some of the comments were, “very mature sounds”, “excellent preparation”, “wonderful tone quality”, “nice precission”. Judges were so impressed with the band’s performance they awarded DMS with “Band of the Day”, beating out 20 other middle school bands and two high school groups.
