Dragons Blank Strake Jesuit, Reach 5A Final

The Carroll Dragons boys’ soccer team stands one victory from its first Class 5A State Championship. Carroll used another strong defensive effort and one goal was enough again as the Dragons stopped Houston Strake Jesuit 1-0 in a state semifinal at Birkelbach Field in Georgetown.

Carroll (27-0-3) faces Round Rock McNeil (18-5-5) at 6 p.m. Saturday. The game will be carried live via webcast on FoxSportsSouthwest.com and live updates will be provided on the Carroll ISD Twitter account.

The Dragons took a 1-0 lead at the 24:06 mark in the first half when Juan Carlos Flores scored the only goal of the game. Flores headed in a pass from Sean Chapman.

Defense continues to shine for the Dragons. Goalie Oshick Shams produced his fourth consecutive shutout in the playoffs. Shams has allowed just three goals in the postseason. The victory also marked the Dragons’ 21st shutout of the season.

Carroll is seeking its second state championship in the program’s history, but first in Class 5A. The boys won the 4A state title in 2001.
