Superintendent David J. Faltys has named veteran educator Jay Bach as the next director of the award-winning Carroll Dragon Band. He will replace Ron Behrends who is retiring after 33 years in the position.
Bach has been with Carroll ISD since 1994, serving as an assistant director, department head and director at a variety of grade levels. He also has administrative experience, serving as interim assistant principal at Carroll High School in 2004. He is also actively involved in the Irving Symphonic Band and has memberships in the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, International Tuba Euphonium Association, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and Kappa Kappa Psi, National Band Fraternity.
Bach earned his Bachelor of Music, Education degree in May 1985 from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas. He earned a Master of Music, Music Performance from East Texas State University in Commerce (now Texas A&M – Commerce) in 1990 and his Master of Education, Educational Administration from the University of North Texas in Denton in 2004.
Dr. Faltys said Bach was the overwhelming choice of the district interview committee. He was introduced by the Superintendent to the Board of Trustees May 2 as the district’s choice to fill the vacancy by Behrend’s retirement.
“I am very honored and humbled to be selected as the new Director of Bands for Carroll ISD,” Bach said. “I am very excited and look forward to working with all the outstanding students, parents and directors that make the Dragon Band program a success and a part of the Tradition of excellence that is Carroll ISD.”
