Dawson Middle School Celebrates Statewide Recognition

Updated: Dawson Middle School will celebrate being named a “School To Watch” by the Texas Middle School Association.

Students, faculty and staff will participate in a pep rally Friday, May 6 at 3:00 p.m.

The “Schools To Watch” initiative is aimed at recognizing high-performing, middle-level schools. The Texas Middle School Association designates high-performing, middle-level schools as “Schools To Watch” provided they meet three important criterion. These schools are deemed to be academically excellent, developmentally responsive, and socially equitable. In addition, these schools have established norms, structures, and organizational arrangements to support and sustain their excellence.

“It’s my pleasure to see DMS staff and students working middle-school magic every day,” Dawson Principal Ryan Wilson said. “I’m thrilled the state and national middle school organizations have joined me in recognizing the special place that Dawson Middle School really is.”

Dawson Middle School is one of just 10 schools in the state to earn this honor. School staff was formally recognized at the annual TMSA convention in Austin last week. National recognition for this achievement will occur with the Secretary of Education in Washington, D.C., this coming June.
