Incumbents, Stovall Win School Board Race

Voters re-elected Craig Rothmeier and Sue Armstrong to three-year terms on the Carroll School Board, while Fred Stovall appears to have narrowly defeated challenger Chris Archer for the vacant Place 2 position, according to unofficial vote totals.

The unofficial election results were released by Tarrant County and Carroll Independent School District about 90 minutes after polls closed on Saturday. Craig Rothmeier ran unopposed for his Place 1 seat. He received 2,171 early voters in addition to 1,222 election day votes for a total of 3,393.

In a very close race in Place 2, Stovall took a 58-vote lead in early voting with 1,320 votes to Archer’s 1,262. Archer closed in with 798 election-day votes to Stovall’s 756. The combined ballots won Stovall the seat by 16 votes. Results included 2,076 total votes for Stovall and 2,060 total votes for Archer. School and election officials confirmed there are outstanding provisional ballots and mail-in ballots that will have to be reviewed before the results of Place 2 can be declared official.

Incumbent Sue Armstrong soundly defeated challenger Keith Houser to retain her Place 3 seat on the Carroll School Board. She received 72 percent of the early votes, with 1,853 to Houser’s 734. On election day that trend continued as Armstrong garnered 1,113 votes to Houser’s 418. Overall, she defeated him 2,966 votes to 1,152 to retain her seat.

Rothmeier, Stovall and Armstrong will have to wait until the School Board holds a special meeting to canvass the votes and declare the results official. Once that meeting is held (tentatively May 25), the newly elected Trustees will be sworn into office and the Board will begin the process of reorganizing officers for the next year.
