Dragons Win Playoff Series Opener Against Plano East

PLANO – The Carroll Dragons opened the Class 5A bi-district playoffs with an impressive performance.

The District 7-5A champion Dragons halted Plano East 5-1 Thursday night in Plano to win the opener of a best-of-three playoff series. Carroll will look for the series sweep at 4 p.m. Friday at Dragon Field. If necessary, Game 3 will be played at 4 p.m. Saturday at Lewisville High School.

Dragons’ ace right hander John Curtiss flashed his usual form silencing another opponent. Curtiss went six innings and allowed only one hit and finished with 10 strikeouts and six walks. Tyler Alexander pitched the final innings and allowed two hits and had two strikeouts.

The Dragons (26-6) scored a run in the first and fourth before Plano East cut the lead in half in the bottom of the 5th. But Carroll responded with a three-run sixth inning. Catcher Patrick Quintanilla was 3-for-4 with a double and RBI. Darien McLemore belted a three-run double in the sixth. The Dragons finished with five doubles and 12 hits.
