Golfers Finish Second At State Tournament

AUSTIN – The Carroll Dragons’ boys golf team earned a second-place finish at the Class 5A state tournament last week in Austin.

The Dragons ended six strokes behind champion Mansfield. Carroll’s Matt Isler also won a playoff to give Carroll second place after tying McKinney Boyd. Carroll earned a final score of 581 (290-291).

Carroll’s top finisher was Matt Gilchrest, who shot 141 and it included a second-day score of 68. Gilchrest finished fourth overall. Vince Martino shot 70 and 74 (144) and ended sixth, giving the Dragons two top-10 finishers.

Blake Pugh shot 146 for 14th place. Corbin Kasten shot 149 and Isler finished at 161.
