DENTON – With the District 7-5A title on the line, the Carroll Dragons came through with a commanding 10-0 victory over the Guyer Wildcats Friday night.
The Dragons (25-6, 13-1 in 7-5A) had an outstanding pitching perofrmance from their ace, John Curtiss. The senior threw all five innings allowing just two hits, no runs, and recorded five strikeouts. The Dragons scored their first run in the top of the 2nd inning when senior second baseman Payne Drewelow hit a single to center, which scored Tommy Klocke. Drewelow later had an RBI triple to center field in the 4th which also scored Klocke.
Kyle Bailey added an RBI double to left field which scored pinch runner Chip Chambers from first base. In the 5th inning, the Dragons lit up the scoreboard by scoring five runs in the inning. It started with a Patrick McClendon’s RBI double that scored Clark Poole. Ryan Lowe followed with a three-run home run over the left field wall. On the next pitch, Missouri signee Patrick Quintanilla hit a huge home run over the left field fence, propelling the Dragons to a run-rule victory and the district title.
The Dragons will begin the Class 5A state playoffs Thursday against Plano East (20-12-1), the No. 4 seed from District 8-5A.

Game 2: 4 p.m. Friday at Carroll
Game 3: 4 p.m. Saturday at Lewisville (if necessary)
