The Carroll School Board approved three marketing agreements that will generate at least $47,300 for the general operating fund over the next three years, with the potential for additional revenue from Reliant Energy’s “Power Your School” affinity program for utility customers.
Trustees met in the library of Carroll Middle School, where they hope to remain throughout the 2011-2012 school year while the former middle school campus undergoes a renovation project to transform it into an educational training center and administrative offices. The School Board will eventually meet in the band hall area when the project – part of the bond program approved by Carroll voters in May 2009 – is complete.
During the meeting Monday, Trustees unanimously approved a three-year advertising and sponsorship agreement with MetroPCS at Dragon Stadium. The agreement gives the company a Major-level sponsorship at the stadium and on the video scoreboard. Communications & Marketing Director Julie Thannum said the district still has a few Major and Associate level sponsorship packages available for the 2011 season and beyond.
In return for signage and digital messages/logos at the stadium, MetroPCS will pay $7,000 annually to Carroll ISD and Daktronics Sports Marketing. School officials confirmed that CISD and Daktronics have reached the revenue threshold for the first-year payment on the video scoreboard, which is funded by sponsorship dollars and not by taxpayers.
A similar agreement was reached between Daktronics, Carroll ISD and Reliant Energy Retail Services. Reliant’s three-year stadium sponsorship at the Associate level will mean $3,500 annually for the district and will provide them with opportunities to promote their “Power Your School” program at major athletic events beginning this fall. In addition, CISD approved a separate advertising and marketing agreement with Reliant, giving the company exclusive promotion and advertising opportunities with Dragon families. The contract will raise an additional $15,800 for CISD in the next three years, along with revenues received for each utility customer who signs up for Reliant’s “Power Your School” program.
The company agreed last night to give CISD a $25 donation for each new customer who signs up for the program, as well as $3 per month for the next three years for every new and existing customer who signs up and remains a Reliant customer. Profit estimates, of course, depend on participation levels, but initial estimates show potential revenue opportunities between $13,861 and $58,872 over the next three years. This is in addition to the $47,300 raised by the three agreements approved Monday. All of the funds from the three marketing agreements will help offset state funding cuts expected during the next biennium.
Members of the CISD Communications & Marketing Department will be working with Reliant representatives to explain and promote the “Power Your School” program within the CISD community. For more information about how to become a sponsor in Carroll ISD, call 817-949-7080.
