Local Districts Select New Transportation Director

The Grapevine-Colleyville and Carroll Independent School Districts have named Carol Barnhart to fill the Director of Transportation vacancy created by the retirement of Ginny Melara. The districts share the costs, supervision and evaluation of the director’s position.

Barnhart is currently serving as Assistant Director for Denton ISD. She began working as a driver for Denton schools in August 1997, working her way up to Student Management Officer, Assistant Dispatcher, Dispatcher and Interim Director before being named Assistant Director in 2005. She received a Bachelor of General Studies degree from Texas Women’s University in the spring of 2010. She began her duties with GCISD and CISD on June 20.

Barnhart has been praised for her people skills, common sense approach, attention to detail and knowledge of school transportation. She takes over for Melara, who is retiring after 30 total years of public education service in Texas, the last three as Director of Transportation for GCISD and CISD.. Barnhart’s first day in was June 20.
