On May 27, the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) voted unanimously to continue accreditation of Southlake’s Fire Services Department. As part of the yearly accreditation process, the quality of Southlake’s fire and emergency services is measured against the Commission on Fire Safety International’s globally recognized benchmarking system.
Commenting on the accreditation process, Fire Chief Mike Starr said, “It is neither easy nor a one-time event. Instead, it is an ongoing process that requires a strong commitment to continuous quality improvements in the delivery of fire services to Southlake residents.”
Every year, the City’s Fire Services Department prepares and submits an Annual Compliance Report (ACR) to the Commission. The report updates the Commission on the Department’s progress in meeting various quality and service delivery improvement goals, and compliance with Commission standards. The submitted report is then reviewed by a Technical Review Committee member, and later by the Commission Board who makes a final vote to decide whether or not to approve the continuation of a fire agency’s accreditation.
“Accreditation is also a learning experience that allows the Department to assess the gains we’ve made, set performance goals, and develop short-term action and long-term strategic plans,” stated Starr.
Commending the City’s Fire Services Department, CFAI Chairman Ernst Piercy stated, “Your continued dedication to the self-assessment process will certainly result in the continued professional development of your organization.”
