Board Approves Hirings For 2011-2012

Carroll School Board members met during a special meeting Wednesday to consider several personnel-related issues before the 45-day resignation deadline for certified employees in Texas. The Board approved the hiring of nine, classroom teachers district-wide and one assistant principal for Old Union Elementary School. The special meeting today allows those hired to resign in their home districts before the July 8 deadline.

The Board also gave temporary hiring authority to the Superintendent to ensure flexibility for filling positions during the summer months. They abated a portion of policy DC (Local) to allow the authority through the end of September. However, the Board briefly discussed the possibility of granting permanent hiring authority to the Superintendent. They will consider an agenda item to review the related policies in September.

Jon Fike was selected to replace Tina Homan as the OUES Assistant Principal. Homan was recently named the principal of a Corsicana elementary school. Fike has served for the past three years as Carroll ISD’s K-6 Math, Science and Social Studies Coordinator. He served two years as an elementary assistant principal in Coppell before that. He received both his Bachelor of Science Degree in Special Education and his Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. He went on to earn a Master of Education degree in Educational Administration from the University of North Texas. He joins the OUES staff under the leadership of Principal Mary Johnston.

In addition to approving Fike’s hiring as an AP, the Board approved the following nine classroom teachers:

  • Celeste Bradham, Life Skills teacher at Rockenbaugh Elementary
  • Amanda Caruth, English teacher at Carroll Middle
  • Jenna Cossu, Math teacher/coach at Carroll Middle
  • Caitlin Frank, Social Studies teacher at Carroll Senior High
  • Jennifer Royer, Social Studies teacher at Carroll Senior High
  • Brenda Shook, Art teacher at Carroll High
  • Kristen Svajda, Social Studies teacher at Carroll Middle
  • Lawrence Vucan, Social Studies teacher at Carroll Senior High
  • Kelsey White, Science teacher at Carroll High

The Board met briefly in executive session per Texas law.

The School Board adjourned the July 6, 2011 special meeting at 5:18 p.m.
