Recall notice for NAPA Home & Garden gel fuels

Lighting firepots at evening parties is a popular summertime activity. Southlake residents, however, should be aware of the recall of a gel fuel used to light firepots. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has recalled bottles and jugs of NAPAfire and FIREGEL Gel Fuel.

According to the Commission, the product has been linked to 37 incidents, including 23 burn injuries to consumers. Said the Commission in a press release, “The pourable gel fuel can ignite unexpectedly and splatter onto people and objects nearby when it is poured into a firepot that is still burning. This hazard can occur if the consumer does not see the flame or is not aware that the firepot is still ignited.”

“We wanted to let Southlake residents know about the fire and burn hazards associated with this product,” stated Southlake Fire Marshal David Barnes. “If you’ve purchased this product, it is very important that you immediately stop using the gel fuel and return it to the retailer where you purchased the product for a full refund.”
