Walnut Grove Elementary has announces its traffic plan for the 2011-2012 school year. The newest campus of the Carroll Independent School District, Walnut Grove is located at 2520 North White Chapel Boulevard just north of the Dove/White Chapel traffic loop and the Southlake water tower and just south of Bob Jones Park.
A total of 598 students are projected for the fall 2011 enrollment. The first day of school is Monday, August 22.
WGES Principal Dr. Betty McIlvain said parents will access the front drive of the campus using North White Chapel Boulevard. Once they enter the driveway in front of the campus, they will immediately turn right and follow the parent pick-up and drop-off loop all the way around before letting their child out of the vehicle.
Buses and WGES staff will enter the campus from the southern driveway and will be kept separate to help ensure student safety. WGES staff will be present on site to assist parents with the pick-up and drop-off procedures.
School officials say a back entrance to the campus through the Kirkwood Hollow subdivision should not be used as a parent drop-off site. Although there will be some students from that neighborhood who walk through a pedestrian gate to access the WGES campus, the gate for vehicles will be shut and locked at all times.
WGES will become home to all of the students who used to attend Durham Elementary School. About 125 former Johnson Elementary School students are also zoned to WGES. The campus was approved by voters in the May 2009 school bond election.
