Internet Safety Topic Of Sept. 7 S.P.A.R.K. Meeting

Back by overwhelming requests is Buddy Knight who will return Sept. 27 to Southlake to present a program on Kids & The Internet.

The two-hour event, hosted by Students and Parents Against Risk to Kids (SPARK), the City of Southlake and Carroll Independent School District, will begin at 7 p.m. and is free to the public. This presentation is for adults only, no children or students please.

The seminar will be located at Southlake Baptist Church, which is leasing space in the former Carroll Intermediate School building, 1101 N. Carroll Avenue. The program is designed to educate parents about the dangers to our families posed by Internet explicit content and online predators. This free event will help equip parents to effectively protect and parent children in the Internet Age.

The session will cover:

  • How explicit material is marketed to your kids
  • How predators solicit your children online
  • How to inspect your PC for explicit content and the software your children use to get it
  • The dangers of MySpace and Facebook
  • How to set boundaries for your child and keep them on your side
  • Legal and financial threats to the family due to online behavior
  • Tools to protect the family and monitor online activity
  • What to do if you find involvement with explicit content or predators

There will be a workbook that goes along with this presentation that will be on sale at the seminar for $20. For more information about Buddy Knight’s presentation, S.P.A.R.K.’s mission or future programming, contact Laura Hill at 817-797-0782.
