DALLAS – The Carroll Cross Country team’s training paid off with resounding wins at the Greenhill Six Mile Relay on Saturday, Aug. 27 at Norbuck Park in Dallas. Showing great depth, the Carroll teams took five first-place finishes.
“Our teams were determined and we had a strong showing,” said Dragons coach Justin Leonard. “It is a great start to the season, but we need to keep our focus and continue to work hard.“
The Boys Elite 1 Varsity Team, second in the 5A state meet last year,not only won the race, but the team of Ben Goleston, Trevor Gilley, Jordan Chavez and Joe Sansone lapped the field and set a course record of 29:52. This gives the boy’s team the honor of wearing the coveted yellow jersey in next year’s contest. Not to be outdone, second place Elite team 2 finishers at the 30:45 mark from Carroll were Alex Johanson, Nate Sullivan, Regan Hatcher and Matt Odneal.
In 2010, the Lady Dragons lost the yellow jersey to The Woodlands, but in a comeback, they finished third in the 5A state meet , ruled at Greenhill. The team of Courtney Kreigshauser, Sarah Roe, Allison Naval and Rachel Harper were fourth coming into the third leg, but in a a “dig deep” scenario, Allison Naval pulled her team into first place. Rachel Harper was the anchor and added distance to win the meet finishing with 36:22.
In second place was the Elite Varsity 2 team of Shelby Chapin, Morgan Baulier, Felice Johnson and Julia Sunderland with a time of 36:35. Highland Park High School finished third with a time of 36:49.
