Carroll Names 2011 Homecoming Court

The 2011 Carroll Homecoming Pep Rally and Carnival was a success. Under clear skies, fans from across the Dragon Nation filled the parking lot at Dragon Stadium for an evening of food, fun and festivities.

Wednesday, September 21 was the fourth annual Homecoming Carnival organized by the Carroll Student Council. Entry to the carnival is free and guests can participate in games, bounce houses, and purchases Dragon merchandise. Some of this year’s food vendors included Chick-fil-A and Qdoba. This year the carnival was held on the home side of Dragon Stadium. The carnival fun lasted from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Immediately following the carnival, fans filed into the stadium for the Carroll Dragon Pep Rally which featured the crowning of this year’s Homecoming King and Queen. The pep rally also included members of the Dragon football team, band, cheerleaders, Emerald Belles and Crew.

The entire rally was emceed by Carroll Senior, Nick Grisham. Grisham announced all the members of the 2011 Carroll Homecoming court as they were escorted to the center of the field. This year’s Freshman Prince and Princess nominees were: Sam Avers, Chase Punko, Emily Bond and Carley Browning. The Sophomore Prince and Princess nominees were: Zachary Truesdale, Steven Bergmark, Sydney Fugett and Lacey Munoz. Nominees for the Junior Prince and Princess were: Connor Roe, Ryan Nolan, Emily Zapinski and Rachel Marry. Nominees for 2011 Homecoming King were: Scott Cagel– Belmont, Karl DeZoeten, Carson Henderson and Colin Johnson. Nominees for 2011 Homecoming Queen were: Morgan Holliday, Kirbi Sullivan, Beth Venesky and Kaelyne Yumul.

After the entire court was named, Grisham announced this year’s winners:

  • 2011 Homecoming King, Carson Henderson (pictured right)
  • Junior Princess, Emily Zapinski
  • Junior Prince, Ryan Nolan
  • Sophomore Princess, Sydney Fugett
  • Sophomore Prince, Steven Bergmark
  • Sam Avers, Freshman Prince
  • Emily Bond, Freshman Princess

The Homecoming Football game is scheduled for Friday, September 23, 2011 when the Carroll Dragons host the Fossil Ridge Panthers at Dragon Stadium. The Homecoming Dance will be held next month. The dance is scheduled for Saturday, October 29 at the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine.
