Carroll ISD To Showcase New Middle School

Carroll Independent School District will have the opportunity to showcase its new, solar-powered middle school building as the district hosts the North Texas Area Association of School Boards meeting.

School Board Trustees from a number of North Texas districts will be attending the event on Wednesday, September 21. The dinner meeting will give CISD officials the chance to share its green strategies at Carroll Middle School, which opened on East Kirkwood Boulevard in Southlake on August 22.

CMS is home to all of the seventh and eight graders who live north of FM1709. The campus features one of the largest solar arrays on a school building in Texas, covering more than 70,000 square feet of rooftop space. Among other features are natural lighting, geothermal wells for heating and cooling, LED lighting, solar screens and reflective coated roof materials.

Carroll ISD received a $2 million grant from the State Energy Conservation Office (SECO) as well as more than $709,000 in rebates from Oncor. The campus is expected to save local taxpayers 70-80 percent on monthly utility costs. It has frequently served as a site for school visit tours. The general contractor for the project was Bartlett Cocke. Architectural design was done by Natex Architects, Inc.

Carroll Trustee Craig Rothmeier is an active member of NTAASB and serves on the organization’s Executive Committee. The group is comprised of districts within the Region X and XI Educational Service Centers. In addition to an Executive Board meeting and dinner, Jackie Lain, Associate Executive Director of the Texas Association of School Boards, will give school officials an update on the 82^nd Legislative Session. The program will be followed by tours of the CMS facility.
