(This is an update of former Carroll Dragon football players now playing in the NFL.)
TE, Scott Chandler, 3rd year
Chandler is having a career breakout to start the 2011 season. Chandler has four touchdowns in the first three weeks of the season. The Bills are off to a 3-0 start and coming off an overtime upset of New England. Chandler opened the season with two touchdowns against Kansas City. Chandler, who had one career catch before this season, has found a home after playing for the Chargers, Cowboys and Giants.
NEW ORLEANS SAINTS
K Garrett Hartley, 4th year
Hartley is currently injured (hip flexor) and expected to miss the first six weeks of the season. He is also expected to regain his job when healthy and has been replaced by veteran John Kasey.
QB Chase Daniel, 3rd year
Daniel serves as Drew Brees‘ backup and holder on extra points and field goal attempts. The former Missouri Tiger has three career pass attempts.
LS Justin Drescher, 2nd year
Drescher joined the Saints last November and became the full-time long snapper. The University of Colorado product also played for the Atlanta Falcons. It has become all-Dragons when it comes to field goals. Drescher snaps to Daniel, who holds for Hartley assembling a Dragons kicking trifecta.
NEW YORK JETS
QB Greg McElroy, Rookie
McElroy’s rookie season ended when he suffered a thumb injury in the preseason and was placed on the injured reserve. His dislocated right thumb required surgery. McElroy was a seventh-round draft pick by the Jets coming out of Alabama.
