In dramatic fashion, the Carroll Dragons survived a homecoming night scare from Fossil Ridge.
The Dragons used a huge stop on a two-point conversion to edge the Panthers 28-26 in the District 7-5A opener for both teams at Dragon Stadium. Carroll, the No. 7-ranked team in Class 5A, moved to 4-0 while Fossil Ridge fell to 2-2. Carroll travels to face Keller at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the KISD Athletic Complex.
Dragons linebacker Jeff Miller provided a game-clinching sack on Fossil Ridge’s two-point conversion in the fourth quarter. The Dragons held a 28-13 lead at the half before Fossil Ridge staged a second-half comeback. Another big play for the Dragons was Sabian Holmes’ blocked field goal attempt in the fourth quarter.
Dragons quarterback Kenny Hill finished 15-for-29 with 135 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. Receiver Peyton Williams led the Dragon with seven catches for 56 yards. Sabian Holmes had 101 yards rushing,including a 67-yard TD run that opened the scoring for the Dragons.
